Monday`s Walk 3 April

What do you call a lake without any water ? Sheehey Lake which is hopefully Monday`s destination. Approx. 5km distance to a point just beyond the lake bed for lunch and return the same way. Views all around and down to Lake Dunstan.

Plan A - The walk starts as for the Cairnmuir Trail and then veers off to the right.
Drive through Clyde and then take the track signposted Lookout. At the Lookout car park we need to drive further to a car park for the trail. This section of the track however requires a 4WD vehicle so at the Wanaka meeting point we will need to ensure we have enough vehicles. If it turns out we don`t have enough then ....

Plan B - Long Gully Hut on the Carrick Water Race. An historic water race man`s hut. Drive through Bannockburn and park up on the Nevis Road. Drop down to Duffer`s Saddle, pick up the water race and follow it on the true left to Long Gully Hut. Again about 5km one way. These water races are remarkable pieces of work and the Carrick Water Race is still in operation today feeding Bannockburn`s vineyards. If Plan A is feasible then we will do this walk later in the month.

Unfortunately I am still hamstrung so the walk will be taken by my glamorous assistant aka my wife. Cheers Glyn
