Monday’s Walk - 30th of May 2022

Destination: UPPER CLUTHA TRACK - easy grade riverside walk
Meet at the lakefront as usual at 9.30 am

Directions: on the main road to Luggate turn left into Halliday Road.
Look for the yellow Halliday Road sign across from the Lavender Farm.
Follow road around until you'll see a sign saying Riverrun - Private Road.
This is where we will park the cars and start our walk in the direction of Alberttown, following the Cardrona River for the first part of our walk.

Later on the track goes along the Upper Clutha in the direction of Devils Nook.
This section of the Upper Clutha Track offers us some spectacular views of the river and surrounding mountain ranges in the distance.
Along the way we'll look for a nice sheltered spot to have our lunch and return the same way back after our lunchstop.

Forecast: 50 - 70% chance of some rain, this 5th time we may not be so lucky as on the previous four Monday walks.
During our walk we can discuss a coffee/tea stop option for on the way back to Wanaka.

Monday’s Walk - 23rd of May 2022

Destination: DINGLEBURN TRACK, eastern shore of Lake Hawea
Meet at the lakefront as usual at 9.30 am

On the main road to Lake Hawea take Camp Hill Rd to the right, go to the end and turn left into Gladstone Rd, follow to John's Creek.
We follow the dirt road along the eastern shore of Lake Hawea to the D.O.C. carpark ….
40 kms from Wanaka, 8 kms north of Timaru Creek. There's a toilet and info board at the carpark on the right hand side of the road which is where our walk will start.

This is an easy lakeside walk on a 4WD track to Silver Island Bay, approx. 13 km return.
The track is mostly flat with a few minor hills and fabulous views of the lake and mountains. We will have lunch at Silver Island Bay, bring some sandfly repellent.

FORDS ………. There are several fords we cross so take extra care if you are in an ordinary car, preferably we will use 4 WD's .

The forecast is looking superb!
A coffee, tea or icecream on our way back at the Lake Hawea shop-café is an optional extra on the menu …..

Monday’s Walk - 16th of May 2022

Destination: Sawpit Gully - Arrowtown
2.5 - 3 hour looptrack with a gentle approach
Grade: Medium to High level of fitness

With the weather for tomorrow looking great this is one of our last chances to soak up the very last of the spectacular Autumn colours around Arrowtown.
This is a great loop trail with a variety of scenery such as piles of stone gold-mining tailings near the creek and varying vegetation from Beech forest pockets to Tussock covered slopes. We will also get to see the remains of an old stone hut which was once home to a succession of gold miners.
Up the hill we'll meet the Big Hill trail at Eickhardt's Flat and walk downhill towards Arrowtown after lunch with Lake Hayes in full view.

This will most probably be followed by a coffee or tea in Arrowtown or at the Cardrona Pub.

Monday’s Walk - 9th of May 2022

With the weather not looking too flash for Monday we will decide in the morning for either Option A or Option B.

Option A: Starting from the carpark we'll walk via Bremner Bay to the Outlet Track and onwards to Albert Town along the Clutha River.
Our final destination will be Pembroke Bakery for tea/coffee and maybe some delicious pastry for some of us.
We'll have one car already parked up at the Bakery to return some drivers back to the Lakeside carpark and collect enough cars to pick up the crew from Albert Town.

Option B: Lake Hawea Campground to John's Creek and return.

Please do bring a mask to wear inside the car whilst in transit, Omicron is now actively going around in Wanaka and has already affected quite a number of our walkers!
