Monday`s Walk 21 September

Grandview Creek Track

Start at the DOC car park beyond the old Nook Nursery. A couple or five creek crossings so gaiters not a bad idea if you have them and you`re bothered! Lunch at the gate boundary between Lake Hawea Station and Mount Grand Station. Instead of a return the same way descend through Mount Grand station and out by the woolshed. As this is a longish walk anyway and with an elevation gain of about 650m, then rather than flog back along the road we will leave a car at the woolshed.

Stunning views over Lake Hawea, the surrounding flats and the local peaks.

Monday`s Walk 7 Sept

Carricktown and a bit further

The walk up the Caledonian spur in the Carrick range behind Bannockburn is on 4 wheel drive track through a belt of quartz reefs and the site of a Central Otago 19th century gold town.

Drive to Bannockburn and from there up Schoolhouse Road, turn into Gully Road then Quartzville Road until the gated entrance is found on the left. The walk starts here to Quartzville and then on passing through Carricktown and up through mullock heaps etc.to a couple of stone dams which is the lunch spot. About 6 to 7 km one way.

Great views down to Cromwell and the Clutha valley.
