Monday 27th February

Sawyer Burn Track

The walk this week goes from Kidds Bush carpark up to the bush line towards Sawyer Burn Hut. This is a tramping track and the climb is steep,
there are also a couple of rocky sections that may require some clambering over before we break through the bush line.
It will be a lovely walk for a warm day and we will be rewarded by the views as we come out of the bush to find our lunch spot.

Monday 20th February

Young River

We head up past Makarora to the Blue Pools track where our walk starts. We may need to be patient crossing the first swing bridge and again at Blue pools but once past there we will probably have the track to ourselves.
its through the woods with a steep scramble up and over a bluff (not a long section of the walk - probably 20 minutes) and down to the mouth of the Young River where we find a spot for lunch.
Depending on the river on the day we have a choice of doing several river crossings or returning by the same track but you may want to bring river shoes.

Monday 13th February

The weather forecast once agin is not brilliant so

Plan A: Motutapu track starting from the bridge to Soho Farms along the river

or Plan B: Upper Clutha River track from Halliday Road if the weather is already inclement.

Monday 6th February 2017 Fernburn

This weeks walk is up the Fernburn. The weather forecast is not particularly good so how much of the walk we do will depend on what is happening with the weather. The walk is about 2 hours one way and
we do have shelter in the bush part of the walk.

The beginning of the walk crosses farmland and is flat pasture. The second part of the walk is on a tramping grade track which starts in a beech forest.
There is a climb to the bush line - not excessively steep or long but there is a fallen tree to clamber over and some narrower parts of the track and of course some muddy bits - we will need to watch our feet.
About 20 minutes out from the bush line we will be beside the Fernburn for lunch.

There is an option for a faster group to go onto the Fernburn Hut about 45 minutes farther on than where I expect the main group to lunch - there would need to be a group leader for this.
