Monday's walk 30 April 2018

Thinking of staying close to home and on good ground .......

Plan A was Diamond Lakes/ Rocky Mountain. Plan B was Matukituki Valley.

The current Plan is to leave the cars at the meeting place and walk up
the west side of the lake until lunchtime, hunker down in a nice spot,
and return. The views will be quite different each way!

Come equipped for some rain, but no river crossings. We will be somewhat
sheltered as well.

Monday's walk - 23rd April

The weather is looking good - so we shall do Brian's Mystery Walk. Brian & Marjon found it a couple of weeks ago - a loop starting in Glencoe Road. But on Monday we will start instead in Arrowtown - parking in Ford Street (on the right before getting into town) - cross the footbridge over the Arrow River and climb up Tobins Track. At the top we follow Glencoe Road for a kilometre before a stile leads to the Brackens Saddle Track (bring your camera).
Lunch will be in front of the fireplace of the homestead on Brackens Saddle, with beautiful views all around. Then it is all down hill (except for the bits that go up ) - we descend to and cross New Chum Gully, climb to the junction with the New Chum Gully Track overlooking Arrowtown, then down (beware the slippy mud) to meet Tobins Track and back to the cars.

Monday's Walk - 16th April

Alexandra to Clyde Riverside Trail - the Autumn colours should be good and we may even dodge the rain.
We will drop a car or two by the Clyde Bridge for the car shuffle. The other cars will park at the Alexandra Lakeside Domain (cross the bridge in Alex, turn right into Earnscleugh Road, ignore the first right into Hart Place, next right goes down steeply to the car park).

Monday's Walk - 2 April 2108 - Easter Monday

Minaret Burn Track to Colquhouns Beach

Easter Monday, a good reason to stay close to home!
From Wanaka - Mt Aspiring Road past Glendhu Bay turn right onto West Wanaka Road, across the one lane bridge over the Matukituki River follow the road through 2 farm gates to carpark at the end of this road.
This well formed track provides easy access to beautiful beaches along Wanaka's western shore. From Homestead Bay carpark the track gently undulates towards small, sheltered Colquhouns Beach where we will have our lunch while enjoying the views over Mou Waho Island, Mt Gold, Mt Burke and surroundings.
From there we will return the same way, approx. 14 km return trip.
Please bring suitable footwear, water, lunch, rain gear, suntan lotion and sandfly repellent. For the brave and keen; bring togs & towel too!
