Monday 29 May 2023

Millenium Track.  It looks like it's going to be a gumboot day with rain turning to showers later so if there is to be any walking to be done it's better to be closer to a coffee shop and home.  If we step out the plan is to walk as far as we feel comfortable, rain permitting, then return.  A chat over a coffee is the alternative.

Deans Bank to Dublin Bay wander.

The weather looks good with a frosty start. After meeting at the usual spot on the lake front we will go to the Albert Town campsite and walk the first part of Deans Bank track. Look out for cyclists! The track is narrow in places. When we reach the Lake Outlet area we join the Dublin Bay track and walk around the track for somewhere to lunch. We will return the same way to our cars.

Monday's Walk 15th May 2023

Destination: Cairnmuir Landslide stabilisation works

Description: A short (3.5 km each way) return walk to the Cairnmuir Landslide stabilisation works, the large scale terraced structure clearly visible on the west bank of the Cromwell Gorge 3 km below Cromwell. The walk follows a good 4WD track starting from a DoC car park at Cornish Point and involves a 200 m climb over 1.5 km, a short descent to a small stream crossing, and a further 100 m climb before descending for 1 km to the slip. Good views over Bannockburn, Cromwell, and Lake Dunstan, with plenty of time for a cafe call on the way home.

Monday 8th May

As the weather forecast has changed since yesterday afternoon we can have a discussion at the waterfront carpark as to our plan today.
Originally I had hoped to do the Cloudy Peak track so we may go back to that if everyone agrees.
Come with your preference. The rain should stay away until 2 pm.

Sunday 7th May

Monday's walk 8th May

The weather forecast is looking like we might get a bit wet. So we'll stay closer to home so we can turn tail if we need.
Meet at the waterfront Carpark opposite McDougall street at 9.30.
Then we'll drive to the Paulson Crossing carpark at old Albert town and walk along the Upper Clutha track as far as the weather and our bodies determine.

Bring wet weather gear along with your lunch.
