Monday's Walk 24 April 2023: Wet weather option

Destination: Isthmus Peak track

Description: With unsettled weather overnight and prospects for morning rain increasing down the Clutha River towards Alexandra a Plan B seems prudent. This is for a walk part way up the Isthmus Peak track, to about the 900 m contour (a 400-500 m climb) to a suitable viewpoint and turnaround point. Return the same way, followed by a cafe stop in Hawea.

Monday's Walk 24 April 2023

Destination: Earnscleugh Autumn

Description: Two short walks in and above Earnscleugh coinciding with peak autumn colours. We'll start with a 4 km loop through the Aldinga Conservation Area above Conroy's Dam, visiting an old rock shelter, nearby sluicings, and the Mokomoko Dryland Sanctuary where a predator-proof fence was established in 2009 to secure a habitat for the endangered Otago skink. We'll follow this with lunch at what seems like a suitable place and then move on to the Earnscleugh Tailings where we'll walk one of several loop track options, ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on how much time we have available. See DoC's Alexandra brochure for more details.
