Monday`s Walk 17 April 2017

Sheehey Lake  or to be strictly accurate Sheehey Lake Bed (or maybe puddle after this latest rain)  which is hopefully Monday`s destination. Approx. 5km distance to a point just beyond the lake bed for lunch and return the same way. Views all around and down to Lake Dunstan.

Plan A - The walk starts as for the Cairnmuir Trail (Clyde end) and then veers off to the right.
Drive through Clyde and over the  bridge below the dam onto Earnscleugh Road then after about 1km take the track signposted right to the Lookout. At the Lookout car park we need to drive further to a car park for the trail. This section of the track however requires a 4WD/SUV type vehicle so at the Wanaka meeting point we will need to ensure we have enough vehicles. If it turns out we don`t have enough then ....

Plan B - Mt. Allen Drive to  the Crown Range Saddle car park (1076m) then walk the track to Mt.Allen 1492m. optional ascent for lunch. Approx. 7km one way. Return same way.
Fine views all round especially of approaching aircraft into Queenstown airport
