Monday's Walk 31 July

A reprisal of last week's Plan B (which the three of us who showed up didn't need as we opted for a relatively dry walk up the Motatapu):

Cairnmuir landslide. A walk up to the head of the Cairnmuir landslide control structure, the prominent earthworks visible across Lake Dunstan 4 km south of Cromwell. 4 km each way via a good 4WD track, steep in places, with a height gain of about one and a half Mt Irons.

Monday's Walk 24 July: update

The forecast suggests little if any rain around Cromwell, so we now have a Plan B as well:

Plan A: Motatapu Gorge. As per yesterday's posting.

Plan B: Cairnmuir landslide. A walk up to the head of the Cairnmuir landslide control structure, the prominent earthworks visible across Lake Dunstan 4 km south of Cromwell. 4 km each way via a good 4WD track, steep in places, with a height gain of about one and a half Mt Irons.

Monday's Walk 24 July

A rerun of last Monday's rained out Motatapu Gorge walk. An essentially flat walk alongside the Motatapu River, starting at the bridge on Mt Aspiring Road (500 m past the Diamond Lake parking area), and continuing upriver for 5 km to a lunch stop at Motatapu Gorge. Return the same way. The track is mostly in good condition but has a few muddy sections, so sturdy footwear is recommended.

Monday 10th July

There is no leader for this week so suggest those who want to walk meet at the usual place/time and decide amongst yourselves what you would like to do.
Good opportunity to bring your own walk thoughts along … see you there
