Monday's Walk – 21st March 2022

Destination: Bush Creek

Description: A return walk from the Arrowtown Chinese village to the head of Bush Creek where a low saddle overlooks Millbrook and Lake Hayes. The track has recently been upgraded for MTB riders so essentially all stream crossings are now bridged. Mixed exotic forest near Arrowtown gives way to native beech forest and tussock basins as we approach the saddle, a climb of 400 m over 5.5 km. Café stop in Arrowtown on our return.

Monday 14th March

Hello Walkers.

Weather looks good for tomorrow. A possibility of afternoon showers but we might appreciate a cooling off.
Proposed walk is the Little Criffel. This involves a crossing of the Cardrona river which is not running fast at the moment and only ankle deep.
If you have poles then bring them along as it is a little slippery underfoot on the stones.
Then we will proceed up the hill until we decide to stop for lunch. Good views back to Wanaka.
Return the same way, downhill!

Leader: Jane Hudson.

Monday's Walk 7 March: update

Update 8:25 a.m.

The most recent forecast suggests rather more persistent rain this morning and early afternoon so McPhies Ridge is definitely a non-starter. I'll be at the lakefront from 9:20 a.m. but will be quite happy for anyone who is still keen to do their own thing.

Monday's Walk – 7th March 2022

Destination: McPhies Ridge

Description: A return walk from the Cluden Quarry access road off SH 8 10 km north of Tarras climbing 350 m over 6.5 km to an old top-dressing airstrip on McPhies Ridge with views over the entrance to the Lindis Pass. An overnight southerly change will bring cooler temperatures and possibly a few spots of rain at the start of the walk but conditions should improve from late morning. If the rain looks like persisting we will do something else.
