Rules

Wanaka Walkers are too informal to have a set of rules, but it is worth noting the following:-
  • many walks cross private land - respect the landholders rights - stick to paths - don't disturb stock
  • leave gates how you find them - the person who opens a gate should stay with it and close it
  • don't bring dogs (the 10o'clock group sometimes allow dogs on particular walks, but check first)
  • many walks cross protected Conservation land - do not pick flowers, disturb animals, move or remove historic artifacts
  • listen to instructions from the walks leader
  • stay with the group - don't get too far ahead or turn back without letting the leader know
  • be careful crossing roads - when following a road without a path, face oncoming traffic
  • be careful and considerate on tracks shared with cyclists
  • we usually car share - offer to contribute for petrol, especially if you do not drive often - say $5 to $15 each, depending on distance
