Monday's Walk – 25th April 2022

Destination: Earnscleugh Autumn

Description: Two short walks in and above Earnscleugh coinciding with peak autumn colours. We'll start with a 4 km loop through the Aldinga Conservation Area above Conroy's Dam, visiting an old rock shelter and nearby sluicings. We'll follow this with lunch at what seems like a suitable place and then move on to the Earnscleugh Tailings where we'll walk one of several loop track options, ranging from 30 minutes to 2 hours, depending on how much time we have available. See DoC's Alexandra brochure for more details. Note that the Conroy's Gully circuit involves two crossings of Conroys Creek; these will normally be easily negotiable in light footwear but dry feet are by no means guaranteed.

Easter Monday's walk 18th April: cancel that last one!

Martin here everyone - just realised that Brian Gilbert beat me to it by a few hours, so I'm happy to defer to his Brackens Saddle trip. Boundary Creek may be an option for 25th April.

Monday's Walk – 18th April 2022

Destination: Boundary Creek

Description: A short walk up the first 3 km of the Boundary Creek track near the head of Lake Wanaka, climbing 500 m up a well-formed 4WD track following the spur immediately north of the creek. The track beyond this point is likely to be mostly shaded and cold so we will look for a suitably sunny spot for lunch overlooking the lake. Return the same way.

Will require a 10 km car shuttle.

Monday 4 April 2022

Brian has posted one option for this walk.  An alternative could be the Gladstone Track along the front of Lake Hawea to John's Creek and return which was unanimously voted for by Jane Hudson!  This is a 13k stroll (6.5k each way) with lunch at John's Creek and the choice of a refreshment at the Hawea dairy/cafe at the end.  We can vote on the options when we meet at the Roy's Bay car park at 0930.  The forecast is for a good day, the wind and showers forecast well after we have put our feet up. See you there.
