Monday's Walk 24th February 2025

Destination: Breast Hill track
Description: A short (7 km) return walk up the Breast Hill track from John Creek on Lake Hawea, following part of Te Araroa. From John Creek we'll walk along the Timaru Creek Road for 1 km to the Te Araroa trail junction, where a well-graded zig-zag climbs 300 m to a small saddle at the 700 m contour.  Above this point the track follows the ridgeline with three secondary summits over the next 1.5 km providing possible turnaround/lunch spots at 870 m, 900 m, and 960 m. The track is easily followed but contains several short steep sections where rocky handholds may be welcome. Petrol donation $5 per person.
