Destination: Countryside Trail

Description: A 13 km walk from the old Shotover Bridge to Arrowtown via the Countryside Trail. A mostly level or gently undulating walk sometimes along back roads and sometimes along marked walking trails with a total elevation gain of 220 m:

The trip requires a shuttle to reposition cars so we will allow for this depending on numbers. A good day to enjoy the autumn colours.

Petrol costs $15.

Hi Team 
We will meet at the usual place by 9.30am then drive to tha Tuohy Saddle car park and walk to Meg Hut for lunch. We will return on same track. The forecast is for maybe a shower in the morning but clearing and a fine afternoon 22o petrol  $10 leader  Chris Gibb

March 23rd Lillico Spur


Hi Team We will meet at the usual place, drive to to the end of Waikerikeri road , park at the beginning of the DOC track. The walk is 5.2ks long with approximately 400meters climb .  We will return on the same route There is no water on the way so take your own. The area is very dry so no smoking or anything that causes sparking . $10 for petrol leader Chris Gibb

Meet at the usual place by 9.30am. We will drive to the top of the Crown Range, .walk up the track to Mt Allen have lunch and return same way. The forecast is good 23o so take plenty of water

Lake Roxburgh Walkway from the end of Graveyard Gully Road to Butchers Point and back. We drive through Alexandra, turn right off Tarbert St into Little Valley Road, cross the bridge and turn right.

Locharburn. There is a carpark on the left, 4km beyond Queensberry. A short distance back up the road on the other side is a stile. The track starts with a steep 150m climb.

Monday's Walk - 23rd February 2026

Lake Sheehey - Take 2

After talking with Martin, we will set off for Clyde and complete the walk this coming week. 
See his post from last week for details of the walk and how to get to the start of the walk. 

I anticipate having lunch at Lake Sheehey about 12:30 pm followed by the 150 m off track climb to the Cairnmuir Track.

Monday's Walk 16th February 2026

Destination: Sheehey Lake Circuit

Description: Sheehey Lake is the whimsical name given to a small ephemeral tarn clinging to the hillside opposite the Clyde Dam. Monday's walk is a 9 km anticlockwise loop around the lake, mostly following the first 4-5 km of the Cairnmuir Hill Track. 

Driver Instructions: Turn right opposite the dam just before the top of the hill, drive down to Clyde, and cross the bridge 1 km below the dam. Continue towards Earnscleugh for 1 km, turn right onto a gravel road marked by a "Lookout" sign, and follow this for 3.5 km to DoC signage on the right marking the start of the Cairnmuir Hill Track where this is ample parking on the left. Petrol costs $10 per passenger.

Destination: Upper Potters Creek Track

Description: A 12 km loop walk starting from the top of the Nevis Road at Duffers Saddle on the Carrick Range. The walk traverses gently undulating country with all but 2.5 km on 4WD tracks. Petrol costs $15 per person.

Destination: Weather dependent based on the likelihood of rain spilling east of the mountains as far as the Upper Clutha. Options include a loop walk from the Bannockburn gold fields car park to Bannockburn Arm and back If the rain seems likely to keep its distance; a more local walk if rain is possible; and a cafe walk if it's raining.

Monday's walk 26th Jan 2026

Roaring Meg track. Coming from Cromwell the car park is on the right at the sharp bend just before the Roaring Meg power station. The track soon joins a farm track up past the reservoir. Lunch will be near Skeleton Stream. Return the way we came (be careful to turn off the farm track) - hopefully before any rain arrives.

Loop walk starting from the historic Shotover Bridge (Spencer Road). Assuming the river looks low enough we go upstream on the true left, over the Kimiakau Bridge to Tucker's Beach for lunch. We return on the true right.

Starting from Glencoe Road we climb to Brackens Saddle, then turn right towards Crown Peak. The energetic will run ahead to the summit. Normal mortals will take time over their lunch and sit in the sun. Return the same way.

Monday's walk 5th January 2026

Little Criffell Track starting from the Avalon car park (which is 2km beyond the Larches car park). You may want to have alternative footwear for crossing the Cardrona River. It will be a hot day so bring plenty of water. Starting from 420m we will have lunch when we get fed up of climbing up (say about 1000m, well short of the top at 1400m), then return back the way we came.
