Monday's Walk, 30 September 2019

Fern Burn

With a reasonable likelihood of showers from mid-morning to early afternoon we'll keep it local and sheltered by walking up through the bush on the lower Fern Burn track. Subject to suitable conditions we'll go as far as bush line, but may turnaround earlier (e.g., at the bridge) depending on the weather.

Monday Walk 23 Sept 2019

Plan A

Drive up to Davis Flat and after a short car shuttle, walk the Haast Pass Bridle Track

Plan B

Drive to the Bremner Bay car park, then walk the lakeside track around to the Clutha outlet.

From there we will return to the cars via the Sticky Forest and Pen Bay.

Weather is looking not so good, so we will make a decision, at the usual meeting place.

Monday 16th September

Blue Pools/Young Link Track. Drive up past Makarora to the Blue Pools carpark. We follow the Blue Pools track to the Blue Pools and then continue up the Young Link Track. This is a fairly flat walk.
The track passes through some nice bush and then across some pasture. Expect the possibility of some boggy patches across this section. We continue up to the small 'beach' area where the jet boat picks up. We will lunch here and then return the same route.

Monday 9 September

Spotts Creek track starts on the Cardrona Rd and is one end of the Skyline traverse track but it's a nice walk to the point where you can see the ridge line of the Skyline traverse route.
Adventurous people have continued onto the ridge but without mountain climbing it's a walk mostly on a farm track with the river beside us and tussock around.

Monday's Walk, 2 September 2019

Countryside Trail

We'll celebrate the arrival of spring in the Arrowtown Basin by following the 13.5 km Countryside Trail from the Old Shotover Bridge to the Chinese Village in Arrowtown. The trail, all well-formed and graded for cyclists, follows the Shotover River before climbing onto a terrace and meandering across Speargrass Flat and Millbrook towards Arrowtown and a suitable café. The walk is essentially a continuation of the Two Rivers Trail from Arrow Junction to Lower Shotover, which we did in early July. Will require a short car shuttle from Lower Shotover to Arrowtown.

Monday's Walk 26th August

Cairnmuir Landslide control works

A shortish (90 minutes one way) walk up to the Cairnmuir Landslide earthworks at the head of the Cromwell Gorge. We will drive to Bannockburn and on towards the DoC carpark at Cornish Point. from where we will follow the Cairnmuir Track for 30 minutes before branching left to a low saddle leading to the earthworks and lunch. Return the same way, in plenty of time for a café stop at Nichols. Any overnight showers should have cleared by mid morning and the walk is relatively sheltered from the southerlies, but be prepared for changeable weather.

Monday Walk 19th August

Dry Creek Valley Walk

After travelling out to Ardgour Road near Tarras, from the DOC car park we will walk up the Dry Creek Valley on an easy track, until finding a good lunch spot.

Returning back on same track.

Refreshments at Tarras Cafe compulsory.
