Monday's walk - 26th February 2018

Prospect Hill track

The forecast suggests drier conditions further east and clearing weather from late morning, so we'll explore the lower reaches of the Prospect Hill track behind Earnscleugh. From the DoC car park off the Fraser Dam Road we'll climb about 500 m on a good 4WD track to a suitable viewpoint / lunch spot with panoramic views over the Alexandra basin.

Monday 12th February

Lilico Spur
Drive to Clyde and turn off onto Springvale Rd. Travel along Springvale until Waikerkeri Valley Road. There is a DOC car park at the end of this road.
This walk is over a poled route on a farm track. The walk climbs up (approx 600 metres) until you are under Leaning Rock - an unusual view of this feature. Lilico Spur is also completely visible and if anyone is keen there is a route up this very steep spur.
The rest of us will lunch at a handily placed rock outcrop and enjoy the different views.
The track returns on the same route.

Monday 5th February

Rob Roy Glacier
It is an hours drive to Raspberry Creek and we would be better with 4 WD cars and people who are confident going through the odd ford and miles of gravel road.
It is an 1hr - 11/2hr walk up to the top glacier view, this is a tramping track so its rough in places. Depending on how long it takes up it may be a slightly early lunch but as the track is popular
we will probably push on a little up the valley for a peaceful lunch spot and good views.

Monday 29th January

Cardrona

We will be going to Cardrona ski field and parking at the Valley View carpark and walking up to a viewpoint over the Soho basin back towards Queenstown.
The climb will be steep but doable, although the heat may make this a harder task than usual, and the views are well worth it. Please note there is no water or shelter on this walk and pack accordingly.

There is no charge for this walk other than the normal petrol contribution but if you would rather take the Chondola please see the post below this one and feel free to join the 10am group which leaves from the same spot in town.
Note there is a $15 charge for the Chondola.

Monday 15th January

After last week's climb up towards Mt Shrimpton, this week Brian & Marjon are considering walking the Moonlight Track from Arthurs Point to Moke Lake. Depending on the number of people this involves either a long car shuffle or dividing into two parties who start from opposite ends and swap car keys in the middle - meet up in Arrowtown to swap back.
