Millennium Track from Waterfall Creek to Glendhu Bay. This is the walk planned for last Monday that we were unable to do.

Meet at the lakeside carpark at the foot of McDougall St. at 9.30 a.m.

Waterfall Creek to Glendhu Bay

Drive to Waterfall Creek carpark, do a car shuffle to Mt Aspiring View carpark, walk from Waterfall Creek to Glendhu Bay 

(10-11 km / 2.5-3 hours). The track follows the scenic shores of Lake Wānaka, passing by Damper Bay.

Monday's Walk 20 July 2026

Colquhoun’s Beach: 7km/2-3hr one way.

Drive to West Wanaka Homestead Bay carpark (22min/19km). The track and farm road from the carpark are an easy walk to a beautiful beach on the shores of Lake Wanaka, with the view out to Mou Waho Island on one side and Mount Alta on the other. The track may be muddy in places.

Monday's walk 13th July 2026

There is rain coming this way. To try and escape it, or at least be near the edge, the plan is to drive to Hawea Flat, turn right down Kane Road for 1.5km and park at the end of Hawea Back Road. Plan A is to then do a car shuffle to John's Creek, so we can walk 8km along the quiet gravel road.
Plan B we just walk part way up the road and return to the cars.

Monday's Walk 6 July 2026

As cold southerly showers are forecast for Wanaka and local areas till afternoon, with snow down low on the hills, this Monday’s walk is cancelled. Enjoy a cosy day with a good book and wait for a view of the snow covered hills.

Monday's walk 29 June

Fern Burn Track (2 hours/3-4km I way)

Drive 1km on the Mt Aspiring Road past Glendhu Bay, turn left at Motutapu Rd and continue 3km to the carpark on the left. The track follows the true right of the Fern Burn through grassy flats, then shrubland to remnant beech forest (red, silver and mountain beech) in the Stack Conservation Area.

Expect frost and early fog maybe, cow pats and shade in the forest. Sturdy boots – and poles if you like.

Monday's walk 22 June 2026

Boundary Creek:

The forecast looks good (sunny 3 - 8°), for a pleasant climb up to an old Musterers track, on the way to Makarora (50 Km 40 min). The 4WD track starts opposite the Boundary Creek campsite on SH6 between Hawea and Makarora and climbs 600m/4km/1 ½ - 2 hours one way, to a viewpoint looking back to the head of Lake Wanaka. We can find a lunch spot above Boundary Creek Gorge and then return the same way. Sturdy footwear will be useful- it's been wet- and poles if you like. There is no water.

Devil's Creek on the road between Tarras and Cromwell - about 12km after the road to Bendigo, there is a small DOC carpark on the left. After a climb to Mt.Oho the track levels off. Lunch is wherever we get fed up of going uphill, then return the same way.

Mondays Walk 1 June

Clutha River Loop at Luggate

The weather tomorrow is still looking dodgy, so we'll do a figure of eight loop based at the DOC carpark in Shortcut Road, Luggate.  We'll walk upstream along the bank of the Mata-Au / Clutha  then loop around and back to the carpark; then cross the road (Highway 8A), and walk downstream to Devil's Nook, up Luggate Creek and back to the cars.  That gives us options to lengthen or shorten the route depending on the weather.

Dry Creek. We drive towards Bendigo but turn left after crossing the Lindis into Ardgour Road. After about 5km there is a DOC car park on the right. Last time we went up onto the ridge. This time we will stay in the valley.

Monday's walk 4th May 2026

Shotover Gorge Trail from Atley Road, Arthurs Point to the Kimiakau bridge and back. Access Atley Road by driving past the entrance to Top10, next left and left again. Drive to the end and drop your passengers. There is limited parking near the trail head and may be occupied by cyclists or residents.
The trail is 6km to the bridge and may be busy with cyclists. It passes through the 108m Hugo Tunnel, which does have lighting, but take a headlamp as a precaution.

Monday 27 April

Monday’s walk this week will be Lindis Peak. Description. A 13km return walk gaining an elevation of 1,226m. This involves a short steep beginning and then a steady climb up a 4WD track across farmland. Lunch will be at the summit with fabulous 360 degree views. In order to achieve this we will need to keep a reasonable pace uphill! Meet at the lake front for a prompt departure at 9.30. We drive to Old Faithful Rd to start the walk. There’s a possibility of those who don’t want the climb of walking to the Old Lindis Hotel ruins. Petrol contribution $20. Leader Jane Hudson. 0272929774

Monday 20th April

Destination: Lake Hayes Loop Track Let's meet at the lakefront at 9.30 as usual and Plan A is to drive to the Bendemeer Bay carpark on Lake Hayes and enjoy the autumn colours and views of snow covered hills. The Loop Track is only an undulating 8 km walk but given the temperatures tomorrow (high of 9!) we’ll stay low and hopefully warm. Petrol costs $15 pp There is a plan B closer to home if the weather is really horrid. Leader: Jane Hudson.

Destination: Countryside Trail

Description: A 13 km walk from the old Shotover Bridge to Arrowtown via the Countryside Trail. A mostly level or gently undulating walk sometimes along back roads and sometimes along marked walking trails with a total elevation gain of 220 m:

The trip requires a shuttle to reposition cars so we will allow for this depending on numbers. A good day to enjoy the autumn colours.

Monday 30th Meg Hut

Hi Team 

We will meet at the usual place by 9.30am then drive to tha Tuohy Saddle car park and walk to Meg Hut for lunch. We will return on same track. The forecast is for maybe a shower in the morning but clearing and a fine afternoon 22o petrol  $10 leader  Chris Gibb 

March 23rd Lillico Spur

Hi Team We will meet at the usual place, drive to to the end of Waikerikeri road , park at the beginning of the DOC track. The walk is 5.2ks long with approximately 400meters climb .  We will return on the same route There is no water on the way so take your own. The area is very dry so no smoking or anything that causes sparking . $10 for petrol leader Chris Gibb
